COVID-19 UPDATE

March 17, 2020

We are sending this update to all club contacts highlighting LUFC’s response to the coronavirus (covid-19) situation. We have been monitoring the situation and following the lead of our ‘parent’ organizations US Soccer and Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) as well as our local, state and federal governments.

From a government standpoint, the focus has been to promote social distancing and eliminate any group activities larger than 10 (this number keeps going down). Schools have taken this a step further by eliminating all extracurricular activities and prohibiting any and all participation/practices of any size, whether coordinated by the school or by the athletes/participants themselves.

The soccer infrastructure has provided the following: As a result of the ongoing health crisis, and in consideration of the safety and wellness of our members, WYSA is suspending all activities through April 30, 2020. This is a rapidly changing environment, where we are responding to guidance from many organizations including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), US Youth Soccer and US Soccer. The most immediate concern is the health of the WYSA family, followed by a proactive plan to reconvene WYSA activities when the situation permits. WYSA Staff will begin contacting affected parties immediately regarding their participation in specific programs. The following is a summary of WYSA activities and planned changes.  (Below my signature is the full WYSA Communication, which will have some additional program specific information.)

While my opinion is just that…an opinion. Based on the track record experienced in other countries as well as other industry event cancelations coming in for late April and early May, this situation will remain fluid and changing. Our Board of Directors will keep monitoring the situation and provide periodic updates. Our primary focus is our participants and their families’ safety. We will resume activities as soon as it is deemed appropriate.

As far as a few specifics regarding our LUFC situation:

  • Winter Futsal activities (team and individual practices and all games) are canceled. Since the season was essentially completed, it will not be able to be made up.
  • The spring season will be reconvened as soon as it is prudent to proceed. At this time we anticipate that there will be a spring season/select tournament…however; the season may start and finish late (May/June to June/July??).
  • Individual spring training activities - Jonathan is working with coaches as this is being sent out to create some activities that our children could work on individually to maintain/improve their soccer skills. Starting tomorrow, please content will begin to be posted here on our website and also shared on our facebook page at My Lakeshore United FC.
  • We also anticipate there will be summer activities (Camps) as well, quite possibly a bit later than they have been held in the past.

We are trying to provide as much relevant information as possible in this communication and I am sure there will be questions raised with this communication. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to connect with me. The best method in these ever-changing and time constrained times would be at this email  tk81soccer@gmail.com. I will respond as soon as practical.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work through these challenges. Thank you for your involvement in our LUFC programming and your dedication to our youth and sport!

Sincerely,

Tony Klockow
President
