When determining the age group for a season, the year the season ends should be used for determining the birth year. Also note that the format "U followed by age" really means that age and younger. For example, U8 should be read as 8 and younger.
*Age chart subject to modification upon further review from US Soccer, US Youth Soccer, VYSA, and various leagues.
Q. Does my player need to attend all nights of tryouts?
It is strongly encouraged but players are sometimes unable to avoid missing. Players must attend a minimum of one night to be considered for a Navy (top team) offer. ALL players missing a night must notify LUFC DOC Jonathan Greenfield prior to tryouts via email ( firstname.lastname@example.org ).
Q. What if we are on vacation or not in town the week of tryouts?
ALL players missing tryouts due to vacation or other excused activity must notify LUFC DOC Jonathan Greenfield prior to tryouts via email ( email@example.com ). Players need to schedule an evaluation with Jon.
Q. My player would like to play up an age group, is that allowed?
Although not a common practice based on LUFC player development philosophy, there are cases where players either choose to tryout for an older age group or are asked to by the LUFC DOC. IF the player chooses to they must register for both their age group and the group that they are trying to play up in. If a player trying to play up does NOT make that team and did not tryout age appropriate they will be placed on Green or Grey team only, based on space availability for those teams.
Q. My player will be a freshman this year and play HS soccer for their high school, what team should they try out for?
All freshman who intend on playing HS soccer will try out for their Respective U15 teams.
Q. My player is a U15 this year, will they only get to play ½ of the year?
Under the previous “U” System, U15 was the “freshman” team. With birth year this age group will contain both 8th graders and freshmen. As such the 8th graders in this bracket will play year round U15 and the 9th graders will play either the fall or spring season opposite HS soccer.
